Zhihua Temple
Zhihua temple is located at No.5, lumicang Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Wang Zhen, the eunuch of Si Li in the early Ming Dynasty, imitated the regulations of "Jialan seven halls" in Tang and Song dynasties in 1443. It was originally a family temple, and later named "Baoen Zhihua Temple".
The main buildings of Zhihua temple are bell and Drum Tower, Zhihua gate, Zhihua hall, dongxipeidian (Dazhi hall, cangdian), Tathagata hall, Dabei hall, etc. The roof tiles of the main buildings in the temple are paved with black Liuli ridge beasts. Although they have been repaired many times in the past, the beams, brackets and colored paintings still retain the characteristics of the early Ming Dynasty. Ancient Observatory
Located in the southwest corner of Jianguomen overpass, Jianguomen street, Beijing Ancient Observatory was built in 1442, the seventh year of Ming Dynasty. It was the National Observatory of Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is also one of the oldest observatories in the world. In the Qing Dynasty, the observatory was renamed "Observatory", and after the revolution of 1911, it was changed into the central observatory. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, eight large-scale bronze astronomical instruments were added to the observatory, all of which adopted European astronomical measurement system and instrument structure.
The height of the Ancient Observatory is about 14 meters, and its top is 20.4 meters long from north to South and 23.9 meters long from east to west. Large astronomical instruments such as simple instrument, armillary sphere and armillary sphere are displayed on the stage, while guibiao and Liuhu are displayed under the stage. From the beginning of the Ming Dynasty to 1929, the Ancient Observatory has been engaged in astronomical observation for nearly 500 years. They are not only practical astronomical observation tools, but also unparalleled historical relics.
On February 23, 1982, the ancient observatory was announced as the second batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
