Kaiyuan Town, belonging to Shulan City, Jilin Province, is located in the east of Shulan city. It borders Shahezi town in the East, Xin'an Township in the south, Huancheng street in the West and Qili Township in the north. It is 21.2km away from Shulan City, covering an area of 442.2km.
In the early period of Daoguang reign in Qing Dynasty, Kaiyuan town was called Kaiyuan village; in March 2002, Kaiyuan town was changed from Kaiyuan township to Kaiyuan town. By the end of 2018, the number of registered residence in Kaiyuan town was 28974. As of June 2020, Kaiyuan town has jurisdiction over 2 communities and 14 administrative villages, and the town people's government is stationed in Kaiyuan village.

History of construction
Kaiyuan town is named after the town government's residence in Kaiyuan village.
In the early days of Daoguang in Qing Dynasty, it was named Kaiyuan village.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it belonged to the four districts of Shulan county and set up kaiyuanbao. During the Japanese puppet period, Kaiyuan village was set up, belonging to qilihongbu. In 1945, Shulan county was established as Kaiyuan District.
In March 1955, Kaiyuan District was changed to Kaiyuan township.
In October 1958, Kaiyuan township was transformed into Kaiyuan commune.
In April 1961, Kaiyuan commune established Yongsheng commune.
In 1984, Kaiyuan commune changed to Kaiyuan township.
In March 2002, it was changed from Kaiyuan township to Kaiyuan town.
In September 2005, Qingsong township was merged into Kaiyuan town.
