Shangyuan Town, belonging to Beipiao City, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, is located 35 kilometers south of Beipiao City, adjacent to Daban Town in the north, Yixian County in the south, changheying Township in the East and batuying Township in the West. Jincheng railway passes through the territory with Shangyuan station, 100km away from Jinzhou port. The area is 239.3 square kilometers, and as of 2018, the registered residence population was 14409.
Shangyuan was formerly known as Chaoyang temple. This is Shengji County of Qianzhou in Liao Dynasty. In 1984, Shangyuan commune was changed into Shangyuan township. In 1985, it was established in Shangyuan town. As of June 2020, Shangyuan town has 11 administrative villages.
In 2018, Shangyuan town had 2 industrial enterprises and 32 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.
Historical evolution
Shangyuan was formerly known as Chaoyang temple. This is Shengji County of Qianzhou in Liao Dynasty.
In the early years of Liao Dynasty, Shengji county was established. The Taizu of Liao Dynasty destroyed the Bohai State and moved to Shengji County, which is still called Shengji county.
In the period of emperor Mu Zong of Liao Dynasty, Qianzhou was established. Liao Mu Zong divided Yizhou (today's Yi County) and Bazhou (today's Chaoyang) into Hanhu Shengji County, which was set as Qianzhou.
In the tenth year of the reign of emperor Xingzong of the Liao Dynasty, he was promoted to Bazhou and set up Xingzhong Prefecture. Qianzhou is under the jurisdiction of Xingzhong government of Zhongjing Road.
In the Jin Dynasty, Qianzhou was abolished. Qiancheng town was set up under the jurisdiction of Xingzhong County, Xingzhong Prefecture, Beijing road.
In Yuan Dynasty, Qiancheng town was abandoned. It is located in the east of xingzhongzhou.
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Xu Da, a general of the Ming Dynasty, fought fiercely with the yuan army here.
During the Qing Dynasty, it was located outside the nine official platform by the wicker. Some lamas built Chaoyang temple here. This place was named Chaoyang temple.
During the reign of the Kuomintang, it was Chaoyang Temple Township.
In 1947, it was the seventh district of Lianhe county.
In the thirty seventh year of the Republic of China (1948), it was the 12th district of Beipiao county.
In 1949, Chaoyang Temple belonged to the 16th district of Beipiao county.
In 1958, Chaoyang Temple commune was established.
In 1961, in order to avoid confusion with the homonym of Chaoyang City, Chaoyang Temple commune was renamed Shangyuan commune. Therefore, it is named for shangcaiyuanzi of Chaoyang temple.
In 1984, Shangyuan commune was changed into Shangyuan township.
In 1985, it was established in Shangyuan town.
