Xiangshan township is located in the southern mountainous area of Zhongwei City, bordering Xingren town of Haiyuan County in the East, Changle Town in the West and North, and Jingyuan County of Gansu Province in the south. It was established by the merger of Sanyanjing Township and Jingzhuang Township when the administrative division of Zhongwei county was adjusted in 2003. With a total area of 933.78 square kilometers, the township governs 9 administrative villages and 44 natural villages, including Sanyanjing village, nanchangtan village, Xinshui village, Hongquan village, Shenjing village, Jingzhuang village, Liangshui village, huangquan village and miliangchuan village, with a total population of 8711 (2017). Xiangshan township is located in the central arid zone of Ningxia, with an average altitude of 1740 meters, abundant sunshine, drought and little rain. The annual average precipitation is 180 mm, while the evaporation is 2100 mm ~ 2400 mm. Agricultural production is highly dependent on natural precipitation. In 2003, the former Sanyanjing Township and Jingzhuang Township were merged to form Xiangshan township.
The former Jingzhuang township was established in 1953 as niutiaoliang Township, merged into Xiangshan commune in 1958, established in 1962 as Jingzhuang commune, and established in 1983 as Jingzhuang township. In 1997, it is located in the southwest of the county, 67 kilometers away from the county government, with an area of 632.5 square kilometers and a population of 4000.
