Shanhe township is located in the southeast of Longde County, with a population of 865 (2017); in the Republic of China, Shanhe Township and Shanhe town were established successively.

Longde County governs the township. Located in the southeast of the county, the geographical coordinates are 106 ° 06 ′ - 106 ° 15 ′, 35 ° 24 ′ - 35 ° 32 ′. It is bounded by Dazhuang township of Jingyuan County in the East, Mawan village of dian'an Township in the south, Beishan village of Wenbao Township in the West and Minlian village of chenjin Township in the north. It covers an area of 58.13 square kilometers. Population 865 (2017). It has jurisdiction over 5 administrative villages and 13 villager groups. The township government is stationed at 123 Shanhe village. To the east of the territory is the North-South spine of Liupan Mountain, the terrain is high in the East and low in the west, with an altitude of 1500-2200 meters. It was Shanhe town before liberation and Shanhe township at the beginning of liberation. In October 1958, Wuxing commune (in Shanhe Town, governing yuanshanhe Township and Minlian village of chenjin township) and Weixing commune (in sujiataizi, governing former Sutai Township and hougoumen village of dian'an township) were established; in April 1959, they were renamed Shanhe commune and Sutai commune. In March 1983, Su Tai commune changed its name to Chong'an commune and moved to Chong'an; in January 1984, it was changed to township. In 1996, Shanhe Township, with an area of 34 square kilometers and a population of 7000, governed 10 administrative villages including Shanhe, Beishan, Wangzhuang, yegou, bianzhuang, caizichuan, hepowan, Ertan, jumacha and Shibei; with an area of 66.5 square kilometers and a population of 6000, it governed 10 administrative villages including Chongan, damanpo, Jiangyuan, Diyu, xiaomanpo, miaoma, Malu, hanjiashanzhuang, Sutai and yougou. In 2000, there were 5952 people in Shanhe Township and 4767 people in Chongan township (all permanent residents of Wupu); in October 2003, Chongan township was abolished and merged into Shanhe township; in 2006, nine administrative villages including Wangzhuang, Shanhe, bianzhuang, caizichuan, Ertan, Shibei, Chongan, dadongpo and Diwan were governed. in 2010, there were 6536 permanent residents (sixth census).
