The people's government is located in leipingwei, sanquankou village, hence its name.
Evolution of administrative districts
During the period of the Republic of China, it was called Qingping Township, belonging to Guiyang County. In 1950, it was established in Leiping township. In 1958, it was incorporated into Yangshi people's commune. In 1961, Leiping people's commune was established in Yangshi people's commune. In 1983, the commune was withdrawn and Leiping township was changed. In March 2012, Leiping and Qinglan townships were merged to establish Leiping town.
