Gaoshan Township

Gaoshan township is located in the north of Dejiang County, Guizhou Province, 37 kilometers away from the county seat, bordering Yanhe County and Wuchuan County. The township governs 13 administrative villages, 102 villager groups, 3659 households and 15268 people. It is a settlement of Tujia, Han, man and Gelao ethnic minorities. The township covers an area of 88 square kilometers, with 15495 mu of arable land, an average altitude of 1036 meters, an average annual temperature of 13.8-15.5 degrees, and an average annual rainfall of 1250 mm. The high forest coverage, rich and high-quality vegetation and unique natural conditions in the township provide an excellent environment for the growth and development of a series of Chinese herbal medicines, such as Gastrodia elata.

Gastrodia elata

Gastrodia elata has a long history in the mountains. In the 1960s, wild Gastrodia elata spread all over the township; in the early 1970s, artificial cultivation was carried out and results were achieved. In the middle of 1980, the artificial cultivation technique was popularized in an all-round way, with an annual output of more than 100 tons, winning the reputation of "Gastrodia elata is as much as sweet potato". In 1958, CCTV's "Splendid China" column made a special report on Gastrodia elata. Gaoshan county was named "Tianma town". In recent years, the Party committee and government of Gaoshan township have made great efforts to build the brand of Gastrodia elata. They have successively established three bases of Gastrodia elata, namely Qingfeng, Lengxi and Gaoqiao, and carried out sexual reproduction. Artificial seed production has formed a large scale. The sexual propagation and artificial seed production of Gastrodia elata in Qingfeng Village have been praised by leaders and experts of provinces, prefectures and counties. At present, more than 80000 square meters of Gastrodia elata are planted in the township, and there are 586 households of Gastrodia elata. In 2003, the per capita net income of Gastrodia elata was more than 50 yuan. High gastrodin content, magical efficacy and large-scale and industrialized artificial seed production technology of Gastrodia elata are widely spread in the whole province. In addition, Gaoshan honeysuckle, Radix Pseudostellariae, Rhizoma Corydalis, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Lily and other traditional Chinese medicine bases have been built on a large scale, and become a unique branch of the Dejiang River, proud to live in the north of the Dejiang River, and will become an emerging pillar industry benefiting the masses.

High quality flue cured tobacco

Gaoshan is also the base township of Dejiang high-quality flue-cured tobacco. The average purchase price of flue-cured tobacco in the township ranks first in the county, and the per capita net income of farmers is more than 200 yuan. There are 3000 mu high-quality peanut base and 4000 mu American black plum base in Gaoshan. The corn and soybean produced by Gaoshan with its vast land advantage are favored by customers.
