Caotan township is located in the north of Huining County, Gansu Province. It is 13 kilometers wide from north to South and 30 kilometers long from east to west, with a total drainage area of 210 square kilometers. It borders liuzhaizi Township in the East, sifangwu Township and Tutu Township in the south, BaiCaoYuan Township in the West and tugaoshan Township in the north.
