History of construction
In the first year of Kaiyuan of Tang Dynasty (713), when Jiuhan seawall was rebuilt, people lived in hangtou area, which was under the jurisdiction of Kunshan County, Suzhou. In 751, the Tang Dynasty decided to set up Huating county from the northeast of Haiyan County, the east of Jiaxing county and the south of Kunshan county. The hangtou area was under the jurisdiction of Huating County in Wujun county. In the third year of Tongguang in the later Tang Dynasty (925), hangtou was under the jurisdiction of Huating County in Xiuzhou (later changed to Jiahe County and Jiaxing Prefecture) until the early Yuan Dynasty. In 1291, Shanghai county was set up in the northeast of Huating county and the East and west sides of Huangpu River. At that time, Shanghai county was under the jurisdiction of five townships: Gaochang, Beiting, Haiyu, Xinjiang and Changren. Hangtou district is under the jurisdiction of Shanghai county magistrate. In 1726, the Qing government established Nanhui County in Shanghai, Jiangsu Province. The former Changren township is divided into upper and lower townships, while the lower townships are still built according to the original Baotou, district and map. Hangtou area is under the jurisdiction of the 19th Rural Social Security Bureau of Nanhui County, Songjiang Prefecture, Jiangsu Province. In 1909, Nanhui County implemented town and township autonomy, the original administrative divisions were abolished, and the Baotuan construction was changed to township construction. At that time, Nanhui County had 2 towns and 17 townships except Chengxiang Town, where the county government was located. Hangtou area is under the jurisdiction of Xilian Township, Nanhui County. In the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947), Nanhui County was divided into districts and merged into townships. The original administrative structure at the district level was abolished and township autonomy was implemented. There are 58 townships and 30 townships in the county, and baohejia is reorganized at the same time. Hangtou area was under the jurisdiction of Guhe Township and Luhui Township until liberation in May 1949. On May 14, 1949, hangtou was liberated. In June, the county was divided into six Township Joint offices in one city and one district, and hangtou district was under the jurisdiction of the fourth Township Joint Office in Nanhui County. In October 1949, the township held a meeting of farmers' representatives to abolish the Baojia system and establish the district and Township People's governments. Hangtou area is under the jurisdiction of Xiasha District, Nanhui County, Songjiang District, Jiangsu Province. In September 1954, Nanhui County abolished the establishment of liuzao and Xiasha districts, and hangtou district was adjusted to Xinchang district. In July 1957, Nanhui County merged the districts and townships, and abolished the establishment of the district level. The original 49 townships were merged into 16 townships, with 290 senior agricultural production cooperatives. In hangtou area, the first, second, third, fourth and fifth communes of Guhe Township, the second, third and fourth communes of Xinnan Township, and the second and sixth communes of Huida Township were under the jurisdiction of Shaxiang township. In March 1958, hangtou district was under the jurisdiction of Xiasha Township, Nanhui County, Suzhou special district. In October 1958, the people's commune was established under the jurisdiction of Xiasha people's commune. At the same time, the people's communes were militarized in organization, combatant in action, and collectivized in life. The names of townships and communes were changed to battalion headquarters and company headquarters. In November of the same year, Nanhui and other 10 counties were under the jurisdiction of Shanghai Municipality from Jiangsu Province, and hangtou area was under the jurisdiction of Xiasha people's commune of Nanhui County, Shanghai Municipality. In June 1959, Nanhui County changed the original 10 people's communes into 21 people's communes. In July, hangtou district was set up separately from Xiasha people's commune. In August 1969, the Revolutionary Committee of hangtou people's commune was established. In December 1980, the Management Committee of hangtou people's commune was restored. In February 1984, the government and society were separated and hangtou township was established. In August 1994, the township was removed and the town was renamed hangtou town. In July 1995, hangtou town and hangtou mall were established separately. In August 2001, Nanhui County was removed and built into a district. Hangtou town is subordinate to Nanhui District of Shanghai.
