The origin of the name
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, there was an official household in Zaofang village who built a garden. During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1403-1424), Zhang, Wang, Fang, Du and other surnames settled here. Because there was a kind of golden bell in the garden, it was named jinhuayuan, later referred to as Huayuan.
Division evolution
During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to Huayuan District of Leling County, and was once designated as Shanghui county during the Anti Japanese war from 1938 to 1943. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tenth District of Leling county. In 1957, it was withdrawn from the township. In September 1958, it was renamed as Huayuan people's commune of Leling county. In 1965, it was divided from 10 communes into 26 communes. After the system reform in 1984, it was renamed as Huayuan township of Leling county. In 1988, it was withdrawn from the county to build a city, and it was renamed as Huayuan township of Leling City. In June 2000, Huayuan Township and liuwuguan Township were abolished and Huayuan town was established. The former administrative area of liuwuguan township was transferred to Huayuan town.
