On March 18, 2015, the provincial government approved the cancellation of shanshuao Township and the establishment of Shanshu town. Shanshu town governs the original shanshuao Township, and the town government is located in Shanshu village.

Shanshu township is one of the eight pilot towns of the national project of "county as a unit, integration of funds, whole village promotion and contiguous development". With the care and support of the superior departments, the people of Shanshu are fighting a people's war of getting rid of poverty and becoming rich with the spirit of learning from Dazhai in agriculture, the courage of serving the country and throwing away their heads, and the spirit of Yugong moving mountains. Shanshu Township, which was formed by the combination of former he hometown and shanshuao Township in 1992, is located in the north of Yinjiang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, adjacent to Banxi Town, Shashapo Town, Zhongba Town, eling town and fengxiangxi town of Dejiang County.

Shanshu town governs 17 administrative villages, 159 villager groups, 5372 households and 20005 people, with an administrative area of 74.76 square kilometers and a total cultivated area of 836 hectares. In 2007, the per capita net income was 1850 yuan. The income was mainly from planting, breeding and labor economy. The income of migrant workers accounted for more than 50%.

Shanshu township is located in the northwest of Zhenxiong County, 124 kilometers away from the county, Wanchang Township in the East, Huashan Township in the south, Shanshu Township and Haizi in Yiliang Qiaoshan in the west, Yiliang Longhai in the north, 65 kilometers away from Yiliang County, 90 kilometers away from Yanjin County and 135 kilometers away from Zhaotong City. The whole area of Cunninghamia lanceolata is located in the upper reaches of xiaoganxi, a tributary of Baishui River. There are Xisha River and Dashui river. Dashui river is the only second-class protected water area in the county. There is a municipal Davidia involucrata nature reserve, with thousands of mu of Davidia involucrata and natural bamboo forests, known as the hometown of "thousands of mu of Davidia involucrata and thousands of mu of bamboo garden". The terrain is high in the southwest and low in the northeast, with the highest altitude of 2300 meters in langbandengliangzi and the lowest altitude of 860 meters in banliba, with a height difference of 1440 meters. The climate type belongs to the North Asian hot climate and warm temperate monsoon mountain climate, with an average annual temperature of 13 ℃ and an average annual rainfall of 1200mm.

Shanshu township is rich in water resources. The main rivers in Shanshu township are Dashui River and Xisha River, which belong to the Yangtze River system. Among the two rivers, Dashui river has the most promising development prospect. It originates from shandanwan, Huanglian village, Huashan Township, and flows through four villages: waqiao, Shanshu, Dabao and Fengqi. The forest coverage rate along the river reaches more than 70%, and the flow in Shanshu reaches 30 km. The river bed of the whole basin ranges from 1500 m to 700 m above sea level, and the drop of the whole basin reaches 800 m above sea level 5 cubic meters, and the lowest elevation water flow is 8 cubic meters.

The reserves of limonite, silicon, copper, lead and zinc in Cunninghamia lanceolata are rich and need to be exploited. The reserves of anthracite have been preliminarily proved to be about 130 million tons, mainly distributed in the four villages of Shanshu, xishahe, Dabao and Haizi. It is inclined and banded, and has a thin surface away from the ground, so it is very easy to mine. The area from qingxiangba of Shanshu village to Yimao of xishahe village is full of high-quality oil-bearing anthracite, which is an excellent raw material for coking.

Famous people

Shanshu township is the birthplace of "Shenbing" with strong historical and cultural customs. Ran Shaobo, leader of Shenbing and commander of Qiandong independent division, was born in ranjiapo village.

It is the birthplace of national trombone suona, and its trombone suona is sold all over the country. Nowadays, Tujia lantern, trombone, suona, lion lantern and other traditional programs are popular among the people.
