It was listed as the Second District in September 1952, renamed Maolin District in 1956, belonged to Yuejin commune (later renamed Mingshan commune) in 1958, separated from Mingshan commune and established Maolin commune in 1961, and restored to town in October 1984.
natural resources
It is located in the eastern margin of Yulin basin, with undulating wind hills and karst residual peaks interspersed between the bases. There are Jianfengling in the East, Laohushan in the southeast, guitouling in the west, Daling in the north and dashishan in the middle, all below 350 meters above sea level. It is the main water source for irrigation in the township. It has a subtropical climate, and the temperature is similar to that of Yulin basin. The annual average temperature is 22 ℃, and the temperature in the southern Shishan area is slightly higher than 0.5 ℃. The annual rainfall is 1600 mm, mainly from April to September. Because it is connected to the valley of Beiliu River in the East, which is the channel for the cold wave to invade the town in the East Road, the wind is slightly stronger in winter, and the temperature is also affected. There is no large reservoir in the town, and the drought resistance of small reservoirs is very poor. Because of the far reservoir or pumping irrigation, it is often damaged by drought because it is located in the downstream of irrigation canal. Because of the heavy rain, the water and soil loss is serious, and the river course is silted up by sediment, which is easy to cause waterlogging. Paddy soil is characterized by low organic matter, low fertility, heavy viscosity, and drought and flood. Therefore, the level of agricultural production is not high. The economy is dominated by agriculture. In 1987, there were 35 081 mu of cultivated land and 67 512 mu of forest land. It mainly produces rice with a grain yield of about 26 million jin. Economic crops include flue-cured tobacco, jute, sweet potato, string beans, tomato, sugarcane, sweet bamboo shoots, etc. fruits with high yield and high quality include citrus, pear, chestnut, longan and litchi. Lupansha pear is famous for its large fruit, beautiful color and delicious sweetness. Among them, tobacco and hemp have a certain position in the city. There are 7000 pigs in stock. It is mainly planted in mountain area.
In 1987, there were 32391 mu of cultivated land and 7341 mu of forest land. The main agricultural crops are rice, and the economic crops include orange, banana, sugarcane, green bean, tomato, vegetable, soybean, sweet potato, cassava, etc. it is one of the production bases of canned food and agricultural products in the city. It is mainly planted in mountain area. The diversion canal of Suyan reservoir built after the founding of the people's Republic of China can irrigate 10000 mu of farmland, and the irrigation capacity of small reservoirs built in administrative villages is 10000 mu. In 1962, after the Qingwan river was dredged, three dams were built to block the river, and two sluices were built to control the diversion and irrigation. Except for the poor water conservancy facilities of Changwang administrative village, the water conservancy conditions of other administrative villages are better.
