It is said that Chaoyang mountain was inhabited for a long time, but there is no written record of the history of Chaoyang mountain before Ming Dynasty. According to the existing genealogical data, after the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, some people came to Chaoyang mountain to open up wasteland and settle down, which has developed to the scale of today. During the period of the Republic of China, Chaoyang mountain was under the jurisdiction of Shuitou, Mabu in Pingyang north port and Lingxi in Nangang. During the period of democratic revolution, Chaoyang mountain was a Soviet revolutionary base in southern Zhejiang. Revolutionary predecessors Chen Fu, Yan Qingfu, Hu sunjie, Tu Dechuan, etc. had carried out arduous guerrilla struggle here. In the winter of 1931, the CPC southern Zhejiang Committee was established in Chenfu's hometown at lingmentou of Chaoyang mountain, and successively established Red Army guerrilla base with lingmentou and zhangzhe tomb as the center. In 1947, the Pingyang County Party committee sent Tu Dechuan and Hu sunjie to carry out revolutionary activities in Nangang District, Taking Chaoyang as a foothold. In 1948, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, Chaoyang established the Township People's political power, which is one of the earliest revolutionary base areas in Pingyang County to establish the Township People's political power. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Chaoyang mountain was divided into two townships, Chaoyang Township and Dilong township. In 1957, the two townships were merged into Chaoyang Township, and then Chaoyang people's commune was established under the jurisdiction of Shuitou District of Pingyang County. After 1984, it was restored to Chaoyang township. The former residence of the people's government was in futouwen; in 1990, it was moved to fengmengge. After the implementation of the policy of withdrawing districts, expanding towns and merging townships in 1992, it became a separate Township in Pingyang County. There were 12 administrative villages before 2006 and 7 in 2007. In April 2011, according to the zoning adjustment plan of Wenzhou metropolitan core area, the former Chaoyang township administrative region was merged into Shuitou Town of Pingyang County, and Chaoyang office was set up.

Folk customs
the township is the settlement of She nationality, the largest minority in Zhejiang Province. She villagers have unique living customs and habits. The different shapes and styles of she's houses create a unique style of Chaoyang mountainous rural areas. Chaoyang mountain is rich in the famous Pingyang early fragrant tea. You can't see the green tea garden all over the mountain. It's refreshing to be in it. The melodious folk songs of the she tea picking girls make people linger. Every evening, the golden sunset reddened the whole mountain village. The sound of herdsmen's cattle, the folk songs of She people, the flute of shepherd boy, and the curling smoke of cooking make a vivid watercolor picture of the mountain village. If visitors visit the roadside shops, they will taste the mellow and fragrant Zaoxiang tea. Meanwhile, the local mountain fern, horseshoe bamboo shoots, bitter vegetables and loach, cooked by chefs, have become delicious dishes on the table. The dishes are delicious and refreshing, which greatly increases the appetite of the guests. It can be said that "where in the world is not a peach garden, it is not necessarily a busy city to spend leisure.". The mountains and countryside are for tourists, and the wind is pure and the song is beautiful.
