Division evolution
Chen county was a territory of Chengguan in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. After the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1949, it became the urban area of Chen county. In June 1960, Beihu City People's commune was established, belonging to Chenzhou City at the county level. In March 1961, Beihu people's commune was divided into Beihu and Tiantang people's communes.
