Potou Township

Potou Township, Jianshui County, Yunnan Province is located on the North Bank of the middle reaches of the Red River and in the south of Jianshui County. It is the hometown of Chinese folk art, manganese industry and bamboo industry. The township government is 39 kilometers away from the county seat. Potou village governs 11 village committees, 73 natural villages and 107 villager groups, with a permanent resident population of 24113 (2017).

Historical evolution

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was the chieftain land of Nalou Chadian. In the early years of the Republic of China, it was the seat of the administrative committee of the government department, then it was changed to the seat of the assistant County of the government department of Jianshui County, and then it was changed to the Tenth District. In 1938, it was withdrawn from the district to Chongan Township, in 1950 it was the seventh district, in autumn 1958 it was changed to the people's commune of zhala, in 1961 it was changed to the District, and in 1969 it was changed to the commune. In 1982, the old Tusi office building was replaced by a brick and wooden structure. In 2004, more than 3 million yuan was invested to build a new office building. In 1984, it was changed into Potou District, with jurisdiction over 11 small townships, including Dai township (Yuni). In December 1987, the district was removed and the township was transformed into a village office.
