It is located in the southeast of Ning'er County, facing Mojiang County across BABIAN River in the East, liming Township in the south, Mengxian town in the West and Mohei town in the north, 55 km away from Ning'er county.
The highest altitude is 2247.6 meters in Manya mountain, and the lowest altitude is 585.3 meters in the intersection of Choushui River and BABIAN River, with a drop of 1662.3 meters.
The annual average temperature is 18 ℃, the maximum temperature is 35 ℃, and the annual precipitation is 1500 mm.
It belongs to the red river system. The largest river in the territory is the BABIAN river. Other major rivers, Puzhi River, Lima River and Qili River, are all tributaries of the BABIAN river.
The township covers an area of 402 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was the Fourth District of Ning'er county. In 1940, the district was abandoned and the township was expanded. Xiaomanling was transformed into Yiyong village, and Puzhi and Yiyong village were named Puyi township. In 1940, it was renamed Puyi Township, under the jurisdiction of eight Bao. In 1949, when the democratic government was established, liming district was designated as Puyi District, with jurisdiction over manmo street, laomuzhai, Puzhi, agaohe and Manya. Puyi district was set up in December 1949. In March 1958, nine natural villages, such as a-quhe, in the east part of the river in Pusheng Township, were zoned in xuemojiang county. In June, the district was withdrawn, and in November of the same year, it was renamed Puyi commune. In 1961, it was changed into a district, a commune in 1969, a district in 1983, a Puyi District Office, and a Puyi Township in 1988.

Tea industry
In 2006, there were more than 3000 mu of tea planting area, 1577 mu of picking area and 95 tons of output.
Tobacco industry
In 2006, there were 4 villages, 32 villager groups and 166 households in the township. They planted 854 mu of flue-cured tobacco, sold 1970 tons of tobacco, and achieved a total output value of more than 930000 yuan.
Infrastructure construction
In 2005, the Banpo group of Pusheng village in Puyi township was relocated as a whole, some of them were relocated to Longyang new village behind Pu'er mountain in Ning'er County, and 17 households were relocated to the nearby resettlement site beside Yayangshan reservoir.
In 2006, Puyi Township invested more than 760000 yuan in agricultural infrastructure construction, completed 16 water conservancy projects of various sizes, repaired 25 levees destroyed by water, 10 revetments, built 47 kilometers of canals, completed 140000 cubic meters of earthwork, increased 95 mu of irrigation area, improved 150 mu of irrigation area, and transformed 140 mu of medium and low yield farmland. Among them, 1.5 million yuan was invested to solve the water conservancy project of drinking water for 3500 people and livestock in 321 households. In 2006, more than 800000 yuan was invested to complete the power grid transformation of six villager groups; 252 biogas wells were built in this year, and 1232 biogas wells were built in the township, accounting for 57% of the total number of farmers in the township.
In July 2006, Yayangshan hydropower station was officially put into operation. In March 2007, the construction of Shimenkan hydropower station started. The development and construction of the power station revitalized the potential water resources of our Township and promoted the infrastructure construction near the project area.
In 2020, six, seven, eight and nine villager groups of Duanjin village in Puyi township have built hardened roads.
education
Puyi township has one township level middle school, one primary school and seven village level primary schools, with a building area of 41849 square meters, 131 teachers and 1338 students, including 869 primary school students and 469 middle school students. In 2007, Puyi Township implemented two poverty alleviation and development projects: Puzhi village committee shanpianfang, laomuzhai natural village and Puyi village committee weizhai natural village. There are 67 households and 441 people in laomuzhai and shanpianfang natural villages of Puzhi village committee. Through the implementation of poverty alleviation and development projects, the problem of drinking water difficulty of 67 households and 441 people and 200 large livestock has been solved. The implementation of the project made 52 farmers use biogas, changed their living environment in the past, and greatly improved their environmental sanitation. Through the implementation of the project, 52 households have 2-5 mu of cash crops (tea, walnut) for each household, laying a foundation for future economic development. The total investment of the above projects is 350000 yuan (including 150000 yuan of poverty alleviation and development funds from the higher level and 200000 yuan of labor investment from farmers)
There are 24 households and 96 people in weizhai natural village of Puyi village committee. Through the implementation of poverty alleviation and development project, the difficulty of drinking water for 24 households and 96 people and 130 large livestock has been solved.
