In August 1945, it belonged to Chengzi District of Weichang County. In March 1950, it was renamed the 11th district. In May 1986, it was changed into Chengzi Manchu Township. In June 1989, it was restored to Chengzi township. In January 1996, Taoshan township was incorporated. In 2017, the township was set up. As of June 2020, Chengzi town has 11 administrative villages.

In March 1950, it was renamed the 11th district.
In September 1958, it belonged to Qianjin commune.
In August 1961, Qianjin commune was abolished and Chengzi commune was established.
In 1983, the commune was abolished and Chengzi township was rebuilt.
In May 1986, it was changed into Chengzi Manchu Township.
In June 1989, it was restored to Chengzi township.
In January 1996, Taoshan township was incorporated.
