Hedong Town, belonging to Donghe District, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is located in the east of Donghe District, bordering Dongxing Street with Baotou bus factory in the East, facing the Yellow River across the river with Dalate Banner in the south, Jiuyuan District in the West and Daqingshan in the north. The area is 34.98 square kilometers. In 2018, 24865 people registered residence.

In 1958, Hedong commune was established in the suburb of Baotou City (now Jiuyuan District). In February 1984, the commune was transformed into a township. In 1998, the former suburb (now Jiuyuan District) was assigned to Donghe District. On December 30, 2004, Hedong township was transformed into a town. In June 2020, Hedong town governs 2 communities and 26 administrative villages.

Historical evolution

In 1958, Hedong commune was established in the suburb of Baotou City (now Jiuyuan District).

In February 1984, the commune was transformed into a township.

In 1998, the former suburb (now Jiuyuan District) was assigned to Donghe District.

In December 2003, Jiefang village was assigned to Hedong street.

On December 30, 2004, Hedong township was transformed into a town.

In 16 villages of Hedong Town, 730 square meters of villagers' houses were destroyed by flood, 15878 square meters of dilapidated houses were formed by rainwater soaking; 3801.4 mu of farmland was impacted, including 2280.8 mu of disaster and 1520.6 mu of dead crops; 82 livestock and 2800 chickens were killed.
