Fanshan town belongs to Lujiang County, Hefei City, Anhui Province, 27 kilometers southeast of the county, adjacent to Wuwei and Zongyang counties. It is famous for its rich alum.

Fanshan has a history of more than 1300 years since it was named Chengzhen in Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty for its rich alum. The town covers an area of 128.24 square kilometers (2017), with a total population of 44673 (2017).

Historical evolution

Since the middle of Tang Dynasty, it began to mine and refine alum. By the Northern Song Dynasty, it has become one of the five major alum producing areas in China. In Song Dynasty, the government of Fanshan was the management organization of the government. The main production areas of Wuwei alum are in today's big and small alum mountains. Due to the development of alum mining industry, a commercial market town, alum mountain town, has gradually formed. According to the Song Dynasty "Yuanfeng jiuyu Zhi", Fanshan is one of the six towns in Lujiang County. There are two towns in Lujiang County annals written by Guangxu of Qing Dynasty. In 1865, Dafan Shanbao and Xiaofan Shanbao were set up in the fourth year of Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty. In 1910, dafangshanbao and xiaofanshanbao were still set up in Nanxiang, the fourth district. In 1936, dafanshan Lianbao office was set up, which was subordinate to the second district. In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), set Fanshan Township, Li Nihe district. At the beginning of the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1949, it was located in Fanshan district. In April 1985, the commune was still set up as a town directly under the county, with jurisdiction over Fanshan and Zhongshan offices, three residents' committees, five administrative villages and 129 villagers' groups. The total area (including villages) is 33.5 square kilometers, and the agricultural cultivated land is 7311 mu. There are 4845 households with 20600 people, including 2338 non-agricultural households with 9527 people. before the founding of the people's Republic of China, there were four streets in the town. The main street was 360 meters long and irregular. The road was paved with stones and slabs. More than 50 factories, shops and service industries were set up. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the old streets were widened and renovated. In 1954, Xinshi street and farmer's market were built. In 1985, central street was built with cement pavement and commercial network was expanded. The transportation facilities include bus station, bauxite mine and iron mine truck teams, and highways leading to Qiaokou, Shuangfeng, Zhuanqiao and xiaofanshan are built, and special terminals for bauxite mine and iron mine are set up in Qiaokou.

The town is famous for producing alum. It belongs to Lujiang alum mine, an enterprise with more than 2800 employees. The mining area covers an area of 1.2 square kilometers and the original value of fixed assets is 21.37 million yuan. It has become one of the two major alum production bases in China and one of the 18 key chemical mines of the Ministry of chemical industry. It is listed as a provincial large and medium-sized backbone enterprise. The Zhongshan Iron Mine near the town was built in 1970 and officially put into operation in 1979. It was originally under the jurisdiction of Chaohu Area. In 1987, it was transferred to Hefei Iron and steel company, which is a small and medium-sized enterprise. Yangshan Iron Mine, located in Yangshan village, Zhenli, was established in 2000 and has been awarded the title of "advanced private enterprise" by the city and county for several consecutive years.
