Matou town is located in the west of the county, connecting the county in the East, Yihe River in the north, Gangshang town in the west, Huayuan Township and Guichang Township in the south. Historical evolution
Matou has a long history, it is said that the Tang Dynasty has begun to take shape. Because it is located on the Bank of Yi River, before the Qing Dynasty, the water and land transportation was convenient, the merchant ships were berthed, the cars and horses stayed, so it was named dock. For the convenience of writing, it was simplified as horse head.
In 1658, it was dadong'an township of Tancheng county. Yongzheng two years (1724) belong to Tancheng County Xixiang. In the early years of the Republic of China, it belonged to the Second District of Tancheng county and was once called Matou town. In 1948, it was designated as the 11th district of Tancheng county. In 1954, Matou town was rebuilt. In 1958, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged, which was renamed Matou township. In the autumn of the same year, Matou people's commune was established. In 1962, it was renamed Matou district. In the summer of 1971, it was called Matou commune. In 1984, the government and society were separated, so it was named Matou town.

By the end of 2004, a total of 110000 ginkgo trees were planted in the town, including 70000 trees with diameter at breast height more than 10 cm and 11000 fruit bearing trees.
