Awankang town
Awancang Town, subordinate to Maqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, is located in the south of Maqu County. It is connected with Hequ horse farm and Azi animal husbandry experimental station in Gannan Prefecture in the East, qiujima Township in Aba County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province in the south, Kangsaier Township in Jiuzhi County, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province in the west, muxihe Township in the West and Oula Township in the north. The area is 1546.72 square kilometers. In 2018, 6958 people registered residence.
Before 1949, it was a hereditary tribe under the jurisdiction of Labrang monastery. From 1949 to 1958, it successively belonged to the seventh district of Xiahe. Before 1958, it followed the hereditary system of local officials; in October of the same year, it established awankang commune. In 1962, it was renamed as awankang township; at the end of 1968, awankang commune was restored. In 1983, it was changed into a township. In March 2017, the township was set up. In June 2020, awancang town has five administrative villages.
In 2018, there were two industrial enterprises in awankang town.
Historical evolution

The terrain of awancang town is basin terrain, high in the West and low in the East, with many flat beaches and few hills and gullies. There is gongsaierkamudao in the hinterland. It is a basin grassland area centered on the confluence of Gongqu and saierxiaqu in the northwest and daojiqu in the East, with an area of about 200 square kilometers. With an average altitude of 3600-4000 meters, the highest peak is located in LARIMA, with an altitude of 4500 meters; the lowest point is gongsaierkamudao, with an altitude of 3538 meters.
