Niuwu town belongs to Fuxian County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is located in the east of Fuxian County, adjacent to Yingwang township of Yichuan County in the East, Puti township of Luochuan County in the south, Chafang street in the west, Dao town of Ganquan County and Nanniwan town of Baota District in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 24.8 km, and the maximum distance from north to south is 23.7 km, with a total area of 381.16 square kilometers. The land area is 372 square kilometers, accounting for 97.64%; the water area is 9 square kilometers, accounting for 2.36%.

Historical evolution
In the Han Dynasty, Dong Yi built a city to train cattle for military supplies, so it was named Niuwu city. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was Niuwu town. In ancient times, it was the main channel from Gansu to Shanxi.
