Mangre township is located in the east of Nanmulin County, Xigaze City, Tibet Autonomous Region, bordering Lhasa Nimu County in the East and Dazi Township in the south

The township government is located in Shimu village, 92 kilometers away from the county seat. The government building covers an area of 633 square meters, with a total area of 762.87 square kilometers and a population of 3470 (2017). "Mangre" in Tibetan means "more livestock pens".

In September 1961, the people's Government of mangwu district was established, which has jurisdiction over Renzong, DURU, kanzhuhe, mangwu, Tuanjie and labupu. It was renamed mangre District in 1978. In 1988, mangre township was composed of Renzong Township, DURU Township, Kanzhu Township and mangre township. It shall be under the direct jurisdiction of the county people's government. In 2000, mangre Township had eight villagers' committees: Shimu, Jiaou, yangmuri, Gesang, langkong, Renzong, Kanzhu and Zare.
