Xiyi town is located in the southwest of Heqing County. It is connected with Duomei in the East, Huangping town in the south, Sanying town in Eryuan County in the West and Songgui town in the north. It is the South Gate of Heqing County. It is 40km away from Heqing County in the north, 92KM away from Xiaguan in Dali in the South and 85km away from Lijiang in the north. It is the midpoint station connecting Dali and Lijiang, two famous historical cities and two famous scenic spots.

In the Qing Dynasty, Songgui South Road, the Eastern District of the county, was called Beiya 4a. Some belong to Xiyi 6 a. At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was still Songgui South Road in the eastern district. In 1934, Beiya Township and Qiping Township were built. In March 1960, Beiya commune was established in four townships of Beiya, Luping, Xiyuan and Qinhe, and Qiping commune was established in five townships of Yanyi, xiangshuihe, Qiping, Shuijing and Qifeng; Shuiping township was assigned to Huangping. In 1963, Beiya and Qiping communes merged into Beiya district. In 1967, it was renamed Qianjin commune. In 1978, it was renamed Beiya commune. In 1988, the district was removed and changed to Beiya Township, with nine subordinate townships renamed as nine village offices. Geography
The altitude of the whole town ranges from 1700m to 3842m. The total population is 15406 (2017).
