Menghai County governs the township. In 1913, it belonged to the first district administrative bureau (Cheli), and in 1927, it was set up in nanben township. In 1950, five districts were set up, belonging to Cheli county. In 1953, they were assigned to Menghai, Banna. Mengsong district was established in 1957, Dongfanghong commune was established in 1969, Mengsong commune was changed in 1973, district was changed in 1984, and township was established in 1987. It is located in the mountain area to the east of the county, 25 kilometers away from the county government. It covers an area of 492.6 square kilometers and has a population of 20000. There are simple roads to the county seat, and cars to all administrative villages. It has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages, namely, manmai, nuoyou, manlu, benggang, Bameng, Da'an, benglong, Manfang, Sanmai and manjin. history
Originally chelidi, in 1913 it was under the jurisdiction of the first district administrative branch (chelidi) of the General Administration of Pushi border region. After setting up the county in 1927, nanben township was set up in 1930, which was subordinate to Cheli county. After liberation in 1950, the District People's government was established, which was called Wuben district and subordinate to Cheli county. In 1953, Banna Menghai was established, which was transferred from Cheli to Menghai. In March 1958, Mengsong district was established. It was renamed Dongfanghong commune in 1969. It was renamed Mengsong commune in 1973, Mengsong District in 1984 and Mengsong Township in 1987.
