Longwu town is located in the northwest of Shiping County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 87 kilometers away from the county. It has 14 villagers' committees, 121 villagers' groups and 84 natural villages. At the end of 2008, there were 6034 households with a total population of 22418, including 21557 agricultural population and 861 non-agricultural population. The natural growth rate of population is 2.5 ‰.
Historical evolution
Longwu, formerly known as "mengzhaowu", also known as "mengzhiwu", was established in 1934 (23 years of the Republic of China), and was renamed Longwu County in July 1949. In the early days of the founding of new China (1949-1953), it was also the seat of Longwu county. In December 1955, Longwu county was rebuilt and merged with Shiping County in November 1958. Longwu was set up as district, township and town.
