Mengdong town is located in the south of the county, adjacent to Nuoliang Township in the East, Banhong Township in the west, Mengjiao Township in the north and Myanmar in the south. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the county. It is a frontier agricultural town integrating mountainous area, mid mountain area, suburb and dam area. The total area of the town is 263.43 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 3 communities, 7 village committees, 69 natural villages, 59 resident groups and 80 villager groups.

it is located in guangyunmian temple, which is on the north side of Mengdong Town Street in Cangyuan County and towards e village. It is commonly known as "Xuetang Buddhist temple". Guangyunmian temple has a history of more than 170 years. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit. Together with the manfeilong White Pagoda in Jinghong county and the Jingzhen octagonal pavilion in Menghai County, it is one of the three ancient buildings of Theravada Buddhism in Yunnan Province. It was built in 1828, when the Qing government canonized Hanrong as a chieftain. It is one of the monasteries that have an important influence on the ethnic minorities who believe in Theravada Buddhism in Southwest Yunnan Province. There is still a main hall and two doors. Covering an area of 2200 square meters, the temple is a combination of five eaves and square pavilions. In front of the pavilions, there is a huge wooden dragon hanging upside down on the left and right columns. Six lattice doors on the front of the hall are carved with landscape, figures, flowers, double lions and other patterns. The door is decorated with Baoxiang flower relief. The door and the windows on both sides are carved with fish dragon patterns, flowers, geometry and other patterns, There are 10 color murals painted on the wall of the hall. Except for two of them are Buddhist stories, the other eight are custom paintings, including figures, pavilions, cities and gardens. Guangyun Temple integrates architecture, sculpture and painting. It is an ancient building with high historical and artistic value. It is the material evidence of the cultural exchange among the Dai, Bai, Han and Wa people in the border areas. On January 13, 1988, it was announced as the third batch of national key cultural relics by the State Council.
