Gengma town
Gengma town is under the jurisdiction of Gengma Dai Wa Autonomous County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Gengma County, with an area of 441.95 square kilometers (2017), 11 village committees, 3 communities and 141 villager groups. The total population of Gengma town is 65886 (2017). The annual average temperature is 18.8 ℃ and the annual precipitation is 1303.6 mm, which is suitable for planting sugarcane and other crops.
history
Gengma place name, originated from Dai language. It means the place that people follow the white god horse to find. People at home and abroad call it "mengxianggengkan", which means the land of gold and precious stones. Gengma has a long history. Before the Western Han Dynasty, it was the Ailao site of Yizhou. The Eastern Han Dynasty was under the jurisdiction of Yongchang County of Yizhou. In the 13th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1585), Gengma pacification department was set up. In the 22nd year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1683), Xuanfu department was promoted and Yunnan chief secretary was directly recorded. From 1287 to 1950, Gengma was ruled by the hereditary chieftain system of Han aristocrats of Dai nationality, with a history of 663 years.
Geography
Gengma town is subordinate to Gengma Dai Wa Autonomous County. It is the seat of the county Party committee and government. There are four provincial highways, yanggeng (yangtouyan Gengma), Shuanggeng (Shuangjiang Gengma), gengcang (Gengma Cangyuan) and Gengmeng (Gengma Mengding). Among them, yanggeng highway is grade II asphalt pavement, Shuanggeng and gengcang highways are grade IV asphalt pavement, and Gengmeng highway is under construction Road, traffic is very convenient, 160 kilometers away from Lincang. It is adjacent to sipaishan Township and manghong Township in the East, HEPAI Township in the south, Mengding town and mengjian Township in the west, and mengsa town in the north.

Gengma town is mainly inhabited by Dai, WA, Lahu and other ethnic minorities. Its history and culture are closely related to the economic and social development and customs of ethnic minorities. The main historical sites are: Gengma Dabai pagoda, also known as Jingge pagoda, sanjianshan ancient battlefield, Gengma general Buddhist temple, Gengma Tucheng and yamen.
The ethnic minorities in Gengma town account for a large proportion of the total population, mainly Dai, WA, Lahu, Jingpo and so on. Dai people and Wa people are the protagonists. They are both good at singing and dancing, and have their own special festivals. The main industry of Gengma town is sugarcane industry, which is mainly sold to Gengma sugar factory and overseas Chinese sugar factory in the county. In 2006, the total sales income of sugarcane industry was 59.27 million yuan, accounting for 54% of the total income of rural economy. There is a junior middle school in Gengma Town, Yunpeng middle school, which is 10 kilometers away from the town government. It is named because it is located in Yunpeng village.
