There is no severe cold in winter, no cold in summer, and the four seasons are like spring. Known as "natural oxygen bar" by tourists in the past.

On December 16, 2019, Yunnan provincial government approved the cancellation of Simao town and the establishment of Simao sub district office.

Simao town is located in the north of Simao District, Pu'er City. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the city and district. The town government is located at 12 Biancheng East Road, Simao district. It is a comprehensive town integrating urban and rural areas. Located at 22 ° 42 ′ N and 100 ° 59 ′ e, it borders Yixiang town in the East, Zhendong Township in the west, Tongxin Township in Ning'er County in the north and Nanping Town in the south. The maximum horizontal distance from east to west is 18.4 km, and the maximum vertical distance from north to south is 19.7 km.

With an area of 203.5 square kilometers, the town has 5 village committees, 54 villager groups and 7 communities, with a total population of 108192 (2017) and 14 ethnic minorities including Yi, Hani and Dai. The town has 8806 mu of arable land, 0.61 mu of farmers per capita arable land. The forest land is 185035.12 mu, and the forest coverage rate is 72.9%. Simao town is a shoe-shaped small basin with flat terrain, belonging to Wuliang Mountain at the southern end of Hengduan Mountains. The average altitude is 1320 meters. The main peaks are lianhuadajianshan and changliangzi. The highest peak is lianhuadajianshan, with an altitude of 2005 meters. The lowest peak is lianhuayakou, with an altitude of 980 meters. Simao river originates from Banfu mountain in the south of the town and runs through Simao dam from south to north. Its main tributaries are Shiping River, Shilong River and Xima river. Simao river flows into Ning'er River, merges into Xiaoheijiang River and joins Lancang River, with a total length of 46.6 km. The annual average temperature is 19.4 ℃, and the annual rainfall is 1340.9 mm. The pine forest is tall and green, the mountains are clear and the waters are beautiful, and the seasons are like spring. It is like a pearl in the green sea. It is the real spring city of Yunnan. Historical evolution

Simao town was first established in 1913, then changed to Fuxing town in 1935 because of the outbreak of malaria in 1919. In October 1949, it was changed into a renaissance area. It was changed to Fuxing town in 1958. It was directly under the jurisdiction of Simao special office in 1961 and renamed Hongwu town in 1966. In October 1969, the Revolutionary Committee of Simao special region approved the establishment of the Revolutionary Committee of Hongwu Town, which was upgraded to a county-level Revolutionary Committee without the approval of the province and the State Council. In November 1970, it was renamed Simao town Revolutionary Committee and Nanping commune was put under the jurisdiction of Simao town. In December 1975, the restoration of district level towns and Nanping separate, under the jurisdiction of Pu'er county. It was returned to Simao county at the end of 1981. In March 1984, the system was reformed. The town had one township level sub district office and two township level rural offices. In December 1997, the three village committees of Sanjia village, Lianhua village and qingmenkou village in Nanping town were assigned to Simao town.

Simao town is the seat of the municipal and District People's government, and has been an important border town in southern Yunnan since ancient times. It covers an area of 203.5 square kilometers. It is bounded by Yixiang town in the East, Zhendong Township in the west, Tongxin Township in Pu'er County in the north and Nanping Town in the south. The maximum width of the town is 18.4 km from east to west and 19.7 km from north to south. The terrain is a small shoe shaped basin.

The new rural construction of Simao town takes vigorously supporting the development of vegetable, tea and animal husbandry, seriously implementing policies and measures to benefit farmers, increasing farmers' income and promoting the steady growth of rural economy as the first task. The grain direct subsidy was 197000 yuan, and the grain for green subsidy was 429500 yuan. Through the implementation of animal husbandry discount loan preferential policy, 8.155 million yuan has been invested in the development of animal husbandry, pig breeding construction has begun to take shape, and 24000 pigs are expected to be sold in 2007.
