Before 1949, Xuanwei county was divided into Rongcheng town and Hongqiao Town; in 1950, Xuanwei county was divided into urban district and Chengxi district; in 1953, Xuanwei county was divided into Rongcheng district; in 1954, Xuanwei county was divided into 14, 1 and 7 districts; in 1957, Xuanwei county was divided into Heping commune and Huajiao commune; in 1959, Xuanwei county was divided into Rongcheng commune and Huajiao commune; from 1961 to 1962, Xuanwei county was divided into Rongcheng commune and urban commune; in 1963, Xuanwei county was divided into two communes Xuanwei county is Rongcheng district.
