It is located in the northwest of cengong County, Guizhou Province, about 74 kilometers away from the county. It is located at the junction of two prefectures (Southeast Guizhou and Tongren) and three counties (Zhenyuan County, Shiqian County and cengong county). Provincial Highway 203 passes through the territory with convenient transportation; it borders Longtian town and Pingzhuang Township in the East, duping town and shangzhaihe Township in Zhenyuan County in the south, Wude town and Qingyang Township in Shiqian County in the northwest, and cen (Gong) - Shiqian highway passes through the territory.

Kelou town was built in 1931, changed to Lianbao in 1938, merged with Longtian town in 1942, called Longlou Lianbao in 1943, changed to Kelou Township after it was separated from Longtian town in 1944. After liberation, it still used its original name. In 1957, it was built after the township was withdrawn, and the next year, it belonged to Longtian commune. In 1961, it was built, and in 1969, it was merged with tunshan commune. In 1984, it was renamed Kelou Township, and in 2014, it was changed to Kelou town.
