Tiankan Yi nationality township in Bijie City is located in the northeast corner of Bijie City, 105 ° 49 ′ - 105 ° 52 ′ e, 27 ° 44 ′ - 27 ° 43 ′ n, and the junction of two provinces (Sichuan and Guizhou) and three counties (cities) (Gulin, Jinsha and Bijie). Dana highway passes through Baishahe village in the northwest of the township, crosses the Wantan bridge and enters Sichuan, becoming another exit channel for the north gate of Bijie area.

With a total area of 57.9 square kilometers, there are 12446 mu of cultivated land (after tax reform), including 550 mu of farmland and 11896 mu of soil. It has 7 administrative villages and 92 villager groups. There are five nationalities living in the township, including Han, Yi, Miao, Bai and Mongolia. The total population of the township is 15232 and the total number of households is 3807. Among them, the agricultural population is 14835, accounting for 98.45% of the total population, and the minority population is 3203, accounting for 22% of the total population.

The terrain of tiankan Yi nationality township is high in the southwest and low in the northeast. The highest altitude is 1397.7 meters, and the lowest altitude is 470.6 meters. The main food crops are corn, wheat, soybean, rice, potato, sweet potato, etc.; the main economic crops are rape, citrus, sericulture, walnut, etc. The pillar industries of the township are mainly grain and animal husbandry.

Name and origin

According to legend, in 1941, the landlord surnamed Yang opened up a large area of land. There were more than ten farm labourers living on the ridge of the land. After a long time, it was called tiankan.

Evolution of administrative districts

The Ming Dynasty belonged to Bayi village of Chishui Wei.

In 1949, it belonged to Longchang township of five districts.

In 1950, it belonged to Puyi of eight districts (including the original Longchang township)

In 1952, it belonged to Longchang camp of 17 districts.

In 1954, yanjiaozhai, tiankan and Qinggang were established.

In 1958, the commune was rebuilt and merged into longchangying commune.

In 1959, it was one of the nine communes in Puyi district.

In 1961, tiankan, Qinggang and Yanjiao communes were established.

In 1963, it was one of the 12 communes in Longchang district.

In 1984, tiankan, Yanjiao and Qinggang townships were set up. Tiankan Township belongs to longchangying district.

In 1991, tiankan Yi township was merged.
