Pingmo town is located in the southwest of Daozhen Gelao and Miao Autonomous County, 36 kilometers away from Daozhen county. It governs 3 administrative villages, 15 natural villages and 124 villager groups. The total area of the town is 90.6 square kilometers, accounting for 4.2% of the total area of the county. The cultivated land area is 20550 mu, the forest area is 66284.85 mu, the barren mountain area is more than 68000 mu, and the water area is 480 mu. The highest altitude in the territory is 1702.2 meters (Pingmo peak), and the lowest altitude is 572.2 meters (Pingmo peak). It is adjacent to Shangba Township and Sanjiang Town from east to south, Zheng'an county from south to west, Guhua Township and Qingyuan township of Nanchuan City from west to north, and Dagan town from north to East.

The town has three offices, 15 administrative villages and 124 villager groups, with a population of 15711 at the end of 2000. Steep terrain, rich in water resources. Because the industrial structure of our town is single, there is neither characteristic industry nor wholly foreign-owned enterprises, the vast majority of farmers have no industrial support, families basically have no fixed income, and the phenomenon of poor people and weak wealth is difficult to change.

Existing problems

1. Restriction of land resources. The town has a population of more than 17000 people, covering an area of only 90.6 square kilometers, ranking 13th in the county. There are not many barren mountains, wasteland and other resources available in the town, and the resources are obviously unevenly distributed, resulting in polarization. Pingmushan is rich in land resources, but it is short of labor force. The typical place with less people and more land, and the place with low altitude has a serious phenomenon of more people and less land. In addition, although pingmushan is rich in barren mountain resources, the part available for development is seriously restricted by traffic and electric power.

2. Human resource constraints. Because there is no pillar industry, and most of the places have more people and less land, the masses have no fixed income at home, which leads to a large number of people going out, especially the labor force going out;

3. It is restricted by location advantage. Although our town is located at the junction of two provinces and three counties, it is in a dead corner, the terrain is marginalized, and it does not belong to the hub area. Therefore, it is unable to introduce external resources. Restricted by the traffic bottleneck, our town lacks the driving force of production base and leading enterprises, and basically belongs to the closed development town.
