Pingzheng Gelao township is located in the west of Bozhou District, covering an area of 142.24 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 6 administrative villages, 5015 households, and a population of 20905, including 3576 ethnic minorities (3018 Gelao), accounting for 18.7% of the total population of the township.

brief introduction

Pingzheng Gelao nationality township was founded on December 13, 1956. It is the earliest Gelao nationality township in China and has been ranked first in the list up to now. It is 70 kilometers away from Zunyi, a famous historical city, and 65 kilometers away from Nanbai. It borders on xiaoshantou village of Renhuai City, with a total population of 20905. It governs six administrative villages, namely Hongxin, Gongxin, liming, Geteng, Fenghuang, and Tuanjie. There are 3576 ethnic minorities in the township, most of them are Gelao. In addition, there are Miao and Yi ethnic minorities, accounting for 18.7% of the total population of the township. It is the first Gelao ethnic township on the list.

Historical evolution

Pingzheng Gelao Township in Bozhou district is one of the two Gelao townships established in 1956 after the founding of the people's Republic of China. One of them disappeared in the process of withdrawing and merging the township in the 1990s. Now Pingzheng Gelao Township in Bozhou district is the only Gelao Township with the earliest system in China. Pingzheng Gelao township is located in the west of Bozhou District, bordering Renhuai City, close to 209 provincial road and Zun (QingKeng) Ren (Maotai) high-grade highway which has been reconstructed. As Pingzheng Gelao township is far away from the more developed central towns, its national culture, customs and architecture are relatively well preserved. In Pingzheng Gelao culture, totem worship (bamboo king) and sacrifice, language, song and dance, clothing and so on have a relatively complete heritage records.

climate

Pingzheng is a subtropical monsoon humid climate, with no severe cold in winter and no intense heat in summer. Pingzheng is rich in coal resources, with 120 million tons of coal reserves, limestone, iron ore and other mineral resources; cash crops include flue-cured tobacco, rapeseed, tea, tung oil tree, etc.; wild edible plants include Rosa roxburghii Tratt, kiwi fruit, two fold root, etc.; medicinal plants include Gastrodia elata, Eucommia ulmoides, Fuling, etc.; rare tree species include Ginkgo biloba (Millennium tree), Cymbidium, etc.

Pingzheng Gelao nationality township is a comprehensive self-help tourist attraction with Gelao culture and ethnic customs as the main part, natural ecological landscape and Buddhist culture (Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Gelao) as the supplement. There are Gelao traditional dwellings, Gelao folk customs, Gelao traditional dishes, dry wall Gelao hanging coffin, Tianqi cave in Li village, tap foot temple in Panlong mountain, Tianbaoshan Buddhist culture and black foot Cliff Red Army cave and waterfall group, Panshui river scenery, Millennium ginkgo, etc.

Over the past 50 years since the founding of new China, the local administrative system has undergone several changes, but Pingzheng Gelao township has existed for a long time. Pingzheng Gelao nationality in Bozhou district has its own unique national culture, such as offering Ba to welcome and see off the ancestors, lighting lamps, tree worship and Zitong Lantern Festival on the third day of the lunar new year, singing Yang opera, mountain sacrifice on the third day of March, new eating festival in July, wine cooking Festival on the ninth day of September, Gelao festival in October, king of cattle Festival, Laba Festival in December, etc. In order to develop these long-standing folk culture, Zunyi City plans to plan Pingzheng Gelao township as a tourism demonstration site of Gelao cultural village.

Honors

On January 19, 2021, it was named as the eighth batch of demonstration units of national national unity and progress demonstration area by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.

Yuantong Temple in Tianbaoshan

Tianbao mountain is the only Buddhist holy land in Pingzheng, and it is also an important red tourist route. After the long march of the Red Army in 1935, chief of staff Liu Bocheng set up the command post here.

It is not only the traditional Buddhist belief goal of the Buddhist disciples, but also the eternal life creed of the industrious and simple people in Gexiang.

Yuantong Temple is built on the depression of Tianbaoshan, 1400 meters above sea level. Surrounded by mountains, it looks like lotus petals, among which is the temple tower. Yuantong Temple was rebuilt in 1884, with Jade Emperor hall, Buddha Hall and Guanyin hall. There are more than 100 Buddha statues, such as the Jade Emperor, the Tathagata Buddha, Guanyin, the eighteen Arhats, and so on.

Starting from the right side of the temple, you can ascend the first peak in Pingzheng and have a panoramic view of the mountains with a radius of more than 40 Li. If there is a clear sky, the city of Zunyi can be seen a hundred miles away.

Do not Temple down the mountain, winding down from the tree lined path, lush mountain scenery, people relaxed and happy. In case of light rain and fog, it is like walking in a fairyland.

Heijiaoyan waterfall

There is a big hole about 100 meters high and 30 meters wide under heijiaoyan. When you enter the hole, it is divided into three holes. The right hole is too high for people to enter. The left hole is large and flat. An underground river gushes out of the middle hole, forming a series of dangerous shoals, water falls and waterfalls along the way. There are 36 waterfalls here.
