In January 1960, it was assigned to Harbin City, under the Xiangfang District Heping Branch. In December 1961, it was transferred back to Acheng county to set up Xinxiang people's commune. In September 1984, the government and society were separated and changed to Xinxiang.
On January 12, 2021, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to abolish Xinxiang and set up shimatao town.
