Qugu Township
Qugu township is located in Maoxian County, Southeast of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. It is located in the transition zone from Qinghai Tibet Plateau to Western Sichuan plain. It is adjacent to 9 counties, including Beichuan, Anxian, Mianzhu, Shifang, Pengxian, Wenchuan, Lixian and Songpan. It is 94.8 km wide from north to South and 116.5 km long from east to west. Its geographical coordinates are 31 ° 24 ′~ 32 ° 17 ′ N and 102 ° 56 ′~ 104 ° 10 ′ E. Qugu township was established in 1952, changed into a commune in 1966, and resumed in 1983.
In December 2019, the people's Government of Aba Prefecture decided to abolish Qugu township.

Qugu township is located in the west of the county, 44 kilometers away from the county government. It covers an area of 106.25 square kilometers and has a population of 2409 (2017). The road is open. It has jurisdiction over six village committees, namely Heba, erbuzhai, Hexi, Hedong, seerwo and township horticultural farm. The main agricultural products in Qugu township are corn and potato. It is one of the main forest areas in Maoxian county. Cattle and sheep are the main animal husbandry.
Geography
There are many mountains and deep rivers in Qugu township. The surface is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and the landform is dominated by high mountains and valleys. Most of the peaks in Qugu township are about 4000 m above sea level, with a relative height of 1500-2500 M. the highest peak in the west, Wannian Xuefeng, is 5230 m above sea level. Only in the eastern Tumen area, the mountains and valley slopes are relatively low, with a relative height of 800 m. The Valley in the lower reaches of Tumen River is low, with an altitude of 890 m, which is the lowest point in the county. Located in the Longmenshan seismic belt, it is one of the seismically active areas in China. Minjiang River runs through the whole territory from north to south. Heishui River, CHIBUSU River and Songping river flow into Minjiang River at Xiaohekou and Diexi respectively. Tumen River runs through the whole Tumen area from west to East and flows into Fujiang River system.

The climate of Qugu township is dry and windy, cold in winter and cool in summer, large temperature difference between day and night, and large regional difference. The average annual gas temperature in the county is 11.2 ℃, the average temperature in July is 20.9 ℃, the minimum temperature is - 11.6 ℃, and the maximum temperature is 32 ℃. The average sunshine duration is 1557.1 hours. The annual precipitation is 490.7mm and the average evaporation is 1375.7mm. The frost free period is 215.8 days. There is a big temperature difference between the valley and the mountains. In spring, the snow and ice in the mountains have not melted, and the valley is in full bloom.
Natural resources
Qugu township has phosphorus, manganese, vanadium, titanium, gypsum, marble and other mineral resources. There are many kinds of wild animals and plants, including 189 kinds of main herbs, 56 high-quality tree species, including Abies, spruce, birch, and rare tree species, including Cupressus chinensis, Ginkgo biloba, Taxus chinensis, Albizzia julibrissin, and 574 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine plants belonging to 184 families, covering a total area of more than 500000 mu, among which Cordyceps sinensis, Gastrodia elata and Fritillaria are more famous. There are 41 species and 101 genera of wild animals, including giant panda, red panda, golden monkey, takin, leopard, maoguan deer, argali, red bellied Tragopan and other rare animals under state key protection. There are many rivers in the territory, the current is fast, and the potential of hydropower resources is great. The hydropower reserve is 1.275 million kilowatts, and the exploitable capacity is 398 million kilowatts.
