Songtao town belongs to Yanjiang District, Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. Located at the junction of Yanjiang district and suburb, it is adjacent to Baotai town in the East, Zhongyi town and Nanjin town in the south, Yingying town and Yanjiang town in the west, sanxianci street and Shizishan street in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 5 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is 13 kilometers, covering a total area of 48 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
It was named in memory of martyr Xie Songtao who was killed by bandits in the early days of the founding of new China.
In the Republic of China, the West town was set up.
In February 1951, it was renamed Songtao township.
In October 1955, Shiti township was merged into Songtao township.
In October 1958, the Township Reform commune was established.
In 1959, it merged with the United commune and became the Changjiang commune.
In October 1961, the United commune emerged.
In July 1968, it was renamed Songtao commune.
In 1980, the United commune was renamed liantai commune.

In June 1987, Jintai township was merged into Songtao town.
In 1992, liantai, Nanshi Township 2 and houjiaping town were merged into Songtao town.
In December 2005, 15 villages including Xiaoyan, Eryan, Shichang, Qianjin, Shunhe, Yanshan, Zhouci, Shiti, Jinshi, Xinyan, shuanghuai, Hexin, Huajiao and Xiangshui were assigned to Yanjiang town.

On July 14, the flood peak of the upper reaches of the Tuojiang River reached 360.87 meters. Some farmlands and houses in Shutai, Gaoyan, houjiaping, Baishu, Mabing, Yanjing, Tuanbao, Jintan and other villages along the lower reaches of the Tuojiang River were all flooded. The most serious hail occurred in the afternoon of April 24, 1982. It hit 18 villages in the town. The hail was as big as an egg and as small as a pea. The most serious earthquake disaster was on May 12, 2008. Affected by the Wenchuan earthquake, 2192 houses of 877 villages (residents) in the town were damaged, covering an area of 26310 square meters, with a direct economic loss of 4.63 million yuan.
