Jinjia township is located on the East Bank of Jialing River, 13 kilometers away from Peng'an county. The provincial road Yibei road passes through the township, covering an area of 38.89 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 9 villages, 86 communities and a total population of 13297 (2017).
On October 29, 2019, the people's Government of Sichuan Province approved Nanchong to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns (streets) in 7 counties (cities, districts) including Gaoping District

Historical evolution
Jinjia township was established before liberation (Jinjiachang was divided into districts in the 20th year of Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty). It was established in 1913, and the dingjiaping Temple of Jinjiachang was set up at the beginning. After the liberation of Pengan County in December 1949, Jinjia township was under the jurisdiction of Zhoukou district (District 1). Until 1961, Jinjia township was under the jurisdiction of Xujia District in 1962. In the early 1980s, a new government building and auditorium were built at the original site. At the end of 2005, it was moved to the current government site. Due to historical reasons, Jinjia Township once had the organizational name of Qianjin commune and fighting commune. In the early 1980s, the organizational name of Jinjia township was restored, and experienced four major organizational adjustments in 1992, 1994, 1997 and 2006. The former Jinma township was established in 1952, and its administrative office is located in matoukan of Jinma farm, which is under the jurisdiction of three districts (Jinxi District). In 1958, it merged with Qilong township to form Heping commune. In 1959, it restored the name of Jincheng commune, which is under the jurisdiction of Xujia district. It was renamed Jinxing commune in 1967, Jihong Revolutionary Committee in 1969, Jincheng commune in 1980, Jinma commune in 1981 and Jinma Township in 1983. It has experienced three major organizational adjustments in 1992, 1997 and 2006.

Jinjia township is located in the north of Peng'an County, 13 kilometers away from Xiangru Town, Yingshan County, Fengdou Township and Xingfu Township in the East, Jinxi town in the west, Xiangru town in the South and Qilong Township in the north.
