Gaoyan Township

Gaoyan township is a township level administrative unit that has been abolished in Santai County, Sichuan Province. In December 2019, with the approval of Sichuan Provincial People's government, Santai County abolished Liuchi town and Gaoyan Township, and put their administrative areas under the jurisdiction of Tashan town. The people's Government of Tashan town is located at 184 West Street.

Gaoyan Township covers an area of 25.93 square kilometers. The township governs 9 administrative villages and 1 town residents committee. There are 2690 hectares of land, 788 hectares of arable land, 1.12 mu of land per capita. There are two main rivers, the largest of which is Longtou River, with a total length of 6 km. There are 2 tourist attractions. The vegetation area is 13098 hectares, the forest area is 13098 hectares, and the forest coverage rate is 89%. The total population of the township is 5862 (2017).

Evolution of organizational system

During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, because the street houses were across the Anle River (today's Taohua River), they looked like a dam from a distance, commonly known as "gaoniankan". At the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Santai County set up 4 roads and 28 townships, and Gaoyan was under the jurisdiction of Beilu Longshui township (in gaoniankan). In the 9th year of the Republic of China, there were many wars in Sichuan Province, and the League training organizations were strengthened in various places, and the League training offices were set up in different places. Fushui Township in gaoniankan, Fushui Township in huilongchang (now Guanghui town). In the 14th year of the Republic of China, tuanlian was changed into tuanjia, and gaoniankan was still set up as tuanjia office. In the 19th year of the Republic of China, liuchijing (now Liuchi town) and Changle (now Changle Office of Zhongtai town) were added as tuanjia offices. In the 24th year of the Republic of China, the joint insurance was established as tuan-a. High dam joint protection and Liuchi joint protection are set. In the 29th year of the Republic of China, Gaonian Township and Liuchi Township were established. In 1951, the land reform was completed and the democratic government was established. Gaonian Township and Liuchi Township were still set up. And from Gaonian, Liuchi and Sanhe (today's Tashan town), some villages were set up as United townships. In 1956, Lianhe township was abolished and belonged to Liuchi Township and Sanhe Township respectively. In 1958, Gaonian people's commune, Sanhe people's Commune and Liuchi people's commune were established. In 1961, the former United Township was restored and the United People's commune was established. in 1981, the general survey of place names changed Gaonian to Gaoyan commune, the Sanhe to Tashan commune, and Lianhe to Liansheng commune (named after Lianhe and Shengli reservoirs in the territory). In 1984, it was re established as Gaoyan Township, belonging to Shi'an district. Liansheng Township and Liuchi Township belong to Tashan district. In 1992, Gaoyan was merged into Shi'an town as an office. Liansheng and Liuchi were merged into Tashan town as offices. In 1995, Liuchi was designated as Liuchi town from Tashan town. In 2000, Gaoyan was designated as Gaoyan Township from Shi'an town. in 2019, Gaoyan Township and Liuchi town will be merged into Tashan town.
