Zihe town was originally named Lianghe township. Because of Guangli in the north and Xiehe in the northwest, there are two small rivers converging one kilometer to the north of the town, so it is named "Lianghekou". It was built in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It was originally named zhenzichang and later renamed guangxingchang. From the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China, it was the residence of zuihuo Township, South Road, Santai County. After liberation, Lianghe township was set up. In 1981, the general survey of place names changed its name to Zihe because of its duplicate names.
Zihe town belongs to Santai County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province. It is located at the southernmost end of Santai County, and is known as the "South Gate" of Santai. By the end of 2019, the town governs 34 administrative villages, mainly focusing on agriculture, vigorously developing sideline industry, livestock and poultry breeding is booming, and the specialty Shatian pomelo is welcomed by consumers.
On December 25, 2019, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved the adjustment of administrative divisions of some townships and towns in Mianyang City (cfzm [2019] No. 27): Guangli Township and Xiehe Township were abolished, and their administrative areas were put under the jurisdiction of Zihe Town, and the people's Government of Zihe town was stationed at No. 260 Guangxing street.

It borders Jianzhong Township in the west, Xiehe Township and Guangli Township in the north, Chengu, Taiyi and Fuxi towns in Shehong County in the East, and Xiangshan town in Daying County in the south. In 1984, the commune system was abolished and Zihe Township, liming Township, Xiehe Township and Guangli Township were re established, belonging to Xiangyang District (now Jingfu town).
In September 1992, Zihe town was established by merging Xiehe Township, Guangli Township, Lianghe Township and liming township.
In January 2000, Xiehe Township and Guangli Township were designated as independent townships.
In December 2019, Guangli Township, Xiehe Township and Zihe town are merged to establish Zihe Town, which is located in Lianghekou.
