Wanchong town

Wanchong Town, subordinate to Ledong Li Autonomous County of Hainan Province, is located in the northeast of Ledong Li Autonomous County, bordering Wuzhishan City in the East, Daan town in the south, Baoyou town in the West and Changjiang and Baisha counties in the north. The administrative area of the town is 308.5 square kilometers.

In February 1982, Wanchong commune was established. In 1983, Wanchong commune was renamed Wanchong district office. In 1987, it was changed into Wanchong town. By the end of 2018, 33412 households in Wan Chong town had a registered residence. As of June 2020, Wanchong town has jurisdiction over one community and 15 administrative villages, and the town people's government is stationed in Wanchong village.

In 2015, the GDP of Wanchong town was 426.23 billion yuan, an increase of 7.2% over the same period of last year, and the per capita net income was 5442 yuan, an increase of 8.8% over the same period of last year. By the end of 2018, Wanchong town had three supermarkets or comprehensive stores with a business area of more than 50 square meters.

Historical evolution

In 1950, when the district and township government was established, it was under the jurisdiction of the Second District of the county (Sanping District).

On October 1, 1958, Sanping commune was established.

In 1961, Fanyang commune was established from Sanping commune, and Wanchong was under its jurisdiction.

In February 1982, Wanchong commune was set up from Fanyang commune.

In 1983, Wanchong commune was renamed Wanchong district office.

In 1987, it was changed to Wanchong town.

In 2002, some villages in Sanping township (except Toutang and Sanping villages) were merged into Wanchong town.
