Soviet town
Suqu Town, subordinate to Zijin County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the southeast of Zijin County, 42 km away from Zijin County, adjacent to Nanling town in the East, Huidong town in the South and Longwo town in the northwest, with a total area of 125 square kilometers. In late 2018, the total number of registered residence in the Soviet town was 23586. As of June 2020, there are 8 administrative villages and 1 Community under the jurisdiction of the Soviet town.
Soviet town is a famous old revolutionary base in Guangdong Province. It is the only town named after "Soviet Area" in China. It is one of the earliest places to ignite the revolutionary torch in Guangdong. It is one of the earliest places to establish peasant association organization, peasant armed and rural revolutionary base in China. It is the seat of Zijin County Party committee and Soviet government of Zijin County. It is also the revolutionary base of hailufeng and hailuhui As an important part of the revolutionary base, the purple revolutionary base still preserves a large number of revolutionary cultural relics. It is a major red tourist attraction in Heyuan City, a Municipal Red Tourism Town, and a provincial patriotism education base.
In 2016, the total GDP of the towns in the Soviet Area reached 220 million yuan; the tax revenue completed the task of 5.07 million yuan assigned by the county, accounting for 122.59% of the task of 4.14 million yuan assigned by the county, of which 2.17 million yuan was assigned to the national tax task, 2.34 million yuan was assigned to the local tax task, accounting for 107.8%; 2.07 million yuan was assigned to the local tax task, 2.9 million yuan was assigned to the local tax task, accounting for 140% of the task.
Historical evolution
In the Qing Dynasty, the Soviet town was the capital of Qinjiang.
On the eve of the founding of new China, it belonged to the Second District, and later to Qinjiang town.
After the founding of new China, it belongs to the Fifth District.
In 1952, it was assigned to the fourth district.
In 1957, it was designated as paozi Township and named "Soviet Area" with the approval of the Party Central Committee.
In 1958, the Soviet people's commune was established.
In 1983, it was changed into district.
In 1987, it was changed to township.
On October 1, 1993, the township was set up.

Former site of Soviet government in Zijin County
The former site of the Soviet government in Zijin County, also known as the "red house", is just one way away from the "Xuetian" memorial square. It is a two-story quadrangle building with a two-way civil structure. It was originally a granary built by the big landlord Huang Zhenyun in the late Qing Dynasty, called "Huzi granary". In March 1923, the peasant association of paozi township was established, and the "huzicang" was used by the peasant association. In July of the same year, the general farmers association of Zijin County worked here after its establishment. Due to the crazy counterattack of the Kuomintang army and the landlord militia, the people's Government of Zijin County transferred to the Soviet area to establish a rural revolutionary base and set up the Soviet government of Zijin County, which also worked here. Zhou Enlai, Xu Qianxiang, Peng Pai and other proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation once directed the revolutionary movement here.
