Sanyuanli Street

Sanyuanli street is located in the north of Guangzhou and the southwest end of Baiyun District, adjacent to Jingtai street in the East, Liuhua street in the south, mineral spring street in the West and Tangjing street in the north. The current area of jurisdiction is 6.8 square kilometers, with a population of 100149 (in 2010). There are University of traditional Chinese medicine, civil aviation vocational college, municipal machinery school, Sanyuanli middle school, experimental school of Guangzhou No.65 middle school, Sanyuanli primary school, baishijia primary school, guangtie No.5 primary school, Sanyuanli public kindergarten, Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of traditional Chinese medicine, Civil Aviation Hospital and other medical institutions and community medical stations. There are more than 100 central, provincial and municipal units such as Central South Civil Aviation Administration.

The word "Sanyuanli" comes from the three elements of "heaven, earth and man". According to some scholars, Sanyuanli was already a market in the Song Dynasty. By the Ming Dynasty, it had become an important channel for people from the north to the south. When people from the North went down to Guangzhou City, or when people from Guangdong went north, they had to rest here. A pair of couplets on the upper floor of Nanyue gate in Sanyuan Li also confirmed this view of scholars. The couplet is: "the ancient road Kangzhuang towards the green water, still old to the Castle Peak.". The horizontal inscription is "the ancient road still exists".

Until liberation, Sanyuanli was the largest village in the north of Guangzhou: Jingtai new village at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in the East; Yuexiu mountain and China Hotel in the South; Yaotai village in the West from Guangyuan West Road; part of the old Baiyun Airport in the south of mineral spring swimming pool. "The area is quite vast. It's much larger than Sanyuanli now, with a population of about 5000 people. "

Sanyuanli anti British incident

On May 29, 1841, the British Raiders rushed to Sanyuanli to rob and insult the vegetable farmer Wei Shaoguang's wife. Wei Shaoguang and others could not bear to fight with the enemy and killed several British soldiers on the spot. In order to prevent the British from retaliating, the people of Sanyuanli gathered in Sanyuan temple in the northern suburbs and decided to fight immediately with armed forces. The three-star black flag was used as the command flag, with the flag advancing and the people advancing, and the flag retreating and the people retreating. After hearing the news, the people of 103 townships near Sanyuanli "went with righteous indignation" to form an anti aggression armed force. On the morning of May 30, thousands of volunteers approached the Sifang fort, where the British headquarters was located, lured the enemy troops to niulangang, the preset encirclement. After a day of fierce fighting, more than 200 British soldiers (including two school officers) were killed, and the British troops fled back to Sifang fort. In the battle of niulangang, the people of Sanyuanli won a great victory, and the British army was defeated. On the 31st, volunteers from more than 400 townships in Panyu, Nanhai, Huaxian, Zengcheng, Conghua and other counties also came to help, reaching more than 100000 people.

Sanyuanli people's anti British struggle is the first spontaneous large-scale armed anti aggression struggle of the Chinese people. The former site of Sanyuanli ancient temple, where the people of Sanyuanli vowed to fight against Britain, has now been opened as the "exhibition hall of historical materials of Sanyuanli people's struggle against Britain". In 1950, the Guangzhou Municipal People's government established in Sanyuanli "a memorial to the martyrs who died in the struggle of Guangdong people against British imperialist aggression in Sanyuanli in 1841".

Management organization

Sanyuanli sub district office was established in 1987. It now has five departments, namely, the party and government office, the urban management department, the social economic department, the comprehensive management office and the family planning office. It also has five public institutions, namely, the education affairs management center, the community service center, the rental housing management service center, the labor and social security service center and the city appearance and environmental health management office. There are 28 civil servants and workers, and 17 public institutions. It has 13 community neighborhood committees and 84 full-time community workers. Sanyuanli Village Economic Association has been transformed into Sanyuanli Industrial Co., Ltd. in 2002.

At the beginning of 2002, the Party Working Committee of Sanyuanli Street established a regional joint conference on Party construction, with 22 joint member units, and established service stations for CPC members of street and community party organizations and liaison stations for community mobile party members.
