Historical evolution
The name of the town comes from folklore. It is said that during the Qin and Han Dynasties, a pair of baobai ducks flew down the Longxi River in the town and then entered the Shuiyan at the confluence of Longxi River and Dayang River (purple water). At that time, people named it "white duck". In the yuan and Ming Dynasties, commercial trade developed, and gradually formed a market town, which was named Baiya city. Later, because of the simplicity of writing, the word "duck" was written as "tooth", so it was changed to today's name Baiya city. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of the first district. It was extended to May 1955, called Baiya city. In June 1956, it was called Baiya town. In 1958, it was called Baiya Town People's commune. In 1959, it was renamed Chengguan commune. In 1960, it was renamed Chengguan town. In 1965, it was resumed as Baiya Town People's commune. In April 1985, the scope of the town was expanded, and the villages under the jurisdiction of the original Chayuan Township and Dutang township (the above two townships were called offices) All of them were incorporated into Baiya town and were upgraded to district level town in May of the same year. In 1995, some villages of jingtouwei and Dajiangkou were divided into Baiya town. Now the town is the political, economic and cultural center of the whole county, where the county Party committee, the county people's Congress, the county government, the county CPPCC organs and affiliated units gather.
