Nijiangkou town was established in 1984 as a market. In 1987, yanzitan township was merged with the town to build Nijiangkou town. In view of the increasingly saturated domestic market of bamboo chopsticks, the Party committee and government of the town selectively introduce enterprises with "gateway" or self-supporting import and export rights.
