Hekou town is a pilot town for the construction of small towns in provinces, cities and counties. Located in Liyang plain of Northwest Hunan. It is connected with national highway 207 in the East, Shichang Railway in the west, zhiliu railway in the north, provincial highway S304 passing through, and Lishui town in the south. The "five vertical and six horizontal" backbone roads are all hardened and extend in all directions. The town was established in January 1951, and Xinhe township was incorporated into Hekou town in August 1985. The town is 7 km long from east to west and 6 km wide from north to south, with a total area of 49.34 square kilometers (2017) and a town area of 2.5 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
Hekou is a commercial town with a long cultural history.
