Shangta town

On March 13, 2014, Dongta township was abolished and Shangta town was established. Belonging to Pingjiang County, Yueyang City, Hunan Province, it is located in the north of the county, connected with Tongcheng County, Hubei Province in the north and Nanjiang town in the south. In the Qing Dynasty, small markets were formed, and there are records of "Shangta city" in historical records. It is 47 kilometers away from the county. National Highway 106 passes through. The memorial site is the cemetery of Anti Japanese soldiers in lujiangshan (Jiuling battle).

Historical evolution

In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to the thirteen capitals of Nanjiang Township, while in the Republic of China, it belonged to Nanjiang township of Nankou district. After liberation, it belonged to Dongta Township, Nanjiang District, Pingjiang county.

In 1958, it was Dongta commune of Nanjiang District, Pingjiang County; in 1964, it was Dongta commune of Nanjiang District, Pingjiang County, Yueyang special district. In 1968, it was Dongta commune, Nanjiang District, Pingjiang County, Yueyang area. It was changed to Dongta Township in 1984.

After 1986, it was Dongta Township, Nanjiang District, Pingjiang County, Yueyang City.

In 1995, the government office of Nanjiang district was abolished, and other towns in Nanjiang district were merged into Nanjiang Town, and Dongta township was reserved, with 18 villages under its jurisdiction;

On March 13, 2014, Dongta township was abolished in Pingjiang County of Yueyang City and Shangta town was established. The town people's government was stationed in Shangta town.

geographical environment

Shangtashi town is located in the north of Pingjiang County, bordering Nanjiang town of Pingjiang County in the East and south, Tongcheng county and Banjiang Township in Hubei Province in the West and North. The town has jurisdiction over two neighborhood committees and eight administrative villages, with a total population of 26000 and an area of 59.86 square kilometers, including 1.47 million mu of arable land. The town is mountainous and hilly landform, 177 meters above sea level.

Shangtashi town was originally Dongta township. In order to meet the needs of social development and in combination with local human geography, the Party committee and government of Dongta Township applied to withdraw the township to build a town, and renamed "Dongta township" as "Shangta town". In December 2013, the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs officially approved the application for withdrawing the township to build a town.

History and culture

It is said that in ancient times, when there was a severe drought in the territory, Lu Dongbin was moved by people's praying for God and Buddha, so he dropped a three story tower to stand on Longtou mountain to pray for rain and disaster relief, hence the name Shangta city.

Dongtao mountain is located in Shangta City, named Dongta. According to Kangxi's Pingjiang county annals, "winter tower" is actually a winter peach. "There are peaches in the mountains, which are as strong as melons, and the winter moon is often prosperous", later evolved into "winter tower".
