Wanyu town

Wanyu town is located in Huarong County, Hunan Province, bordering on Huarong County in the south, Shishou City in Hubei Province in the north, Shengfeng Township in the East, siliuxu town and songjiazui town in the west across the West Lake. It is named for its rich products, rich people and the reputation of ten thousand tons of granary in history.

Yueyi expressway, S203 line and Tiaohua highway run through the north and south, Yuechang expressway runs through the West and East. Wanyu town residents committee and 29 Village (farm) committees are under the jurisdiction of the town. The total population of the town is 40013 (in 2017), mainly Han nationality, with a total of 106 ethnic minorities, including 33 Zhuang nationality, 25 Tujia nationality, 24 Miao nationality, 6 Yao nationality, 5 Dong nationality and 5 Bai nationality, accounting for 0.24% of the total population.

Historical evolution

Wan Yu got his name very early, and "Yu" was an open-air barn where he built grain storage as early as the Tang Dynasty. In 965 A.D., Wanyu Xunyuan was promoted to Wanyu County, which includes the northwest of Huarong County and the Jiaoshan River and Shangjin Lake area in the south of Shishou City. Later, it was abandoned and merged into Jianning county. Jianning was found in Shishou, and half of it entered Huarong. During the period of the Republic of China, there was a granary with a capacity of 100000 Dan. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, there was the fourth granary in Huarong County, which could store 80 million jin of grain Because of this. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, the town belonged to Wanyu township. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was a town under the jurisdiction of the fourth district. In 1956, when the district was withdrawn and the township was merged, it was Wanyu township. In 1958, it belonged to the city protection commune. In 1961, it was transferred from the city protection commune to establish Wanyu commune. In 1984, it was changed into an established town.
