Tantou town
Tantou town is subordinate to longhui County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. It is located in the southeast of longhui County, at the junction of longhui County, Shaoyang County and Xinshao county. It is 22 kilometers away from the county and 9 kilometers away from Zhouwang exit of shangrui Expressway to the town government. It is adjacent to Xiaotang town in Xinshao County in the East, Shaoyang County in the southeast, Zhouwang town and yushanpu town in the south, Taohong Town, hexiangqiao town and Shimen town in the west, and tuyankou town and jukoupu town in Xinshao County in the north.
The town governs 87 villages, 3 neighborhood committees and 671 villager groups, with a total of 63413 people (in 2017), with a total area of 177.4 square kilometers (in 2017), and a cultivated area of 52657.78 mu, including 40166.57 mu of paddy field and 12491.21 mu of dry soil. In 2017, Tantou town won the title of national characteristic cultural ancient town. In 2017, it became a new round of national key towns.
Evolution of organizational system
Tantou has a long history and splendid culture. It was built in the Sui Dynasty and is one of the 72 ancient towns in China. In the Sui Dynasty, Tantou belonged to Duliang County; in 590 A.D., it was merged into Shaoyang County and governed by Tantou. From the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, they all belonged to Shaoyang, Xinhua and Wugang counties. During the period of the Republic of China, Tantou was called Dongsheng township, belonging to Tongqian. In the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947 AD), it analyzed the eight townships and one town of longhui in Shaoyang, set up longhui County, and administrated Tantou. After liberation in 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of the first district (taohuaping). It was the Fifth District in May 1950 and the ninth and tenth districts in 1952. Tantou New Year pictures
Tantou New Year picture is the only traditional wood manual printing new year picture in Hunan Province. It is one of the "four big New Year pictures" in China. It is produced in Longtou Town, Shaoyang. Tantou town is named "the hometown of modern folk New Year pictures" by the Ministry of culture of the people's Republic of China. Tantou New Year pictures were formed in the era of Li Shimin in Tang Dynasty, and have a history of more than 1300 years. From the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China, Tantou New Year pictures gradually formed their own unique artistic style: gorgeous and moist colors, primitive, exaggerated, full and personalized modeling methods, pure local materials and unique crafts, which made the works have the artistic effect of relief.
