Yanzi town is located in the east of Hefeng County, known as the "East Gate of Hefeng", with a land area of 369.56 square kilometers (2017). It is 27 kilometers away from the county. Wufeng Wantan town is 98 kilometers away from Wufeng County in the East, Rongmei in the west, Mulinzi primeval forest in the north and Nandu River bank in the south. The town is named after yanziping natural village. Qing Dynasty belongs to Dongxiang Bo'ai Li. Before liberation, it was Yanzi district. At the beginning of liberation, it was divided into two districts (swallow District). Satellite commune was changed in 1958 and swallow district was restored in 1960. In 1975, the district was withdrawn and merged into Yanzi commune and Qiaoyun commune. In 1980, the name of the commune was changed from Qiaoyun commune to Qinghu commune due to the inconsistency between the name of the commune and the residence. In 1984, it was merged into Yanzi district.

Geography

Yanzi Township, Hefeng County, Enshi Tujia Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province, located in the hinterland of Wuling mountain area, is known as the "East Gate of Hefeng", and is also an important market town in Yanbian area in the east of Enshi Prefecture. 325 provincial road runs through the whole area, about 40 kilometers away from the county seat. It is adjacent to Wantan Town, Wufeng County, Yichang area in the East, Rongmei in the west, Mulinzi, a National Nature Reserve in the north, and Nandu River in the south. It has a land area of 369.56 square kilometers (2017), an average altitude of 1200 meters, a cultivated land area of 42454 mu, a forest land area of 398000 mu, and a forest coverage rate of 80.7%.

In the early Qing Dynasty, there were two writers who had a close relationship with Gu Rongmei. One is Kong Shangren, a famous dramatist, and the other is Gu Cai, a essayist and poet. The central market town of Yanzi township is a well preserved ancient border trade town of Jiangnan mountain township. Since ancient times, it has been an important town for Rongmei Tusi to exchange goods and trade with foreign countries.
